Theater Program at Mountain Road
In May of each year, Mountain Road dedicates itself to the production of an original work of theater. The play is conceived and written by our middle school throughout the spring and then it’s all hands on deck as the entire school prepares for the performance during our week-long theater intensive: rehearsing, memorizing lines, building sets and making costumes — each person in the community contributing to the whole. This exposure to the inner workings of theater inspires our kids (and ourselves) to dream, to be larger than themselves, to take risks, to embrace responsibility, to be active and disciplined, to embody composed courageousness, and to be engaged and present. It is very hard work but during this short time, creativity and collaboration abounds and each child has an opportunity to shine both individually and as part of an ensemble.
