What is School On Legs? School on Legs is a week long experiential, multi-disciplinary and multi-age learning experience occurring annually at Mountain Road School the first week in June. It culminates our year long school wide thematic science study through hands-on-opportunities on and off campus. Children have the opportunity to learn in different settings with children of all ages. This year’s topic is Earth.
How does this benefit my child? Children will be able to choose one activity each day of the week to participate in depending on interest, age constraints and parental involvement. Children will participate in what interests them and will have the opportunity to learn using all their senses in exciting ways. At Mountain Road School, we believe that children learn best when they are interested and motivated. Each School-On-Legs activity is designed to be exciting for every level and take advantage of our local resources and the creativity of our teachers. Children also will get the opportunity to learn from different adults in our community. We believe learning can happen both inside and outside the walls of our school.
What is my role as a parent?
1) At Mountain Road School, parents are an integral part of all aspects of the school and are essential in helping the school be successful in many ways. We rely on parents to help drive on field trips. Your participation as a driver/chaperone on one or many of our outings is critical in order for this week to be successful.
Why does it cost something even if my child is staying on site? We calculated the overall costs of admission fees and materials for the week and spread the costs out evenly so choices could be made not based on cost but on interest. We felt this was the most equitable solution for everyone in our community.
