“ONE FIRE” - November 2011

On Tuesday January 12, 2010, Haiti was struck by a magnitutde 7.0 earthquake. Almost two years later, life on this tiny island nation remains harder than ever, yet their need has faded from world view.
But Mountain Road School in New Lebanon, NY, has not forgotten. Inspired to help, the children and their music teacher, Mark Kelso of Muddy Angel Music, created the CD, “One Fire”. This year long project, funded by the Brabson Foundation, became a hands-on teaching tool for the children in all aspects of music and performance, and a life long lesson on social and personal responsbility.
For over two decades, the children have lead the Christmas Eve service at the Abode of the Message in New Lebanon, New York. This CD grew out of the annual event and also include Hanukah songs and seasonal favorities. This joyful music shows what can happen when children are given the opportunity to SING! A clarity and purity emerges that touches the heart.

"What I love about Mountain Road School is the school experience is continually created and growing, based on the needs and contributions of the people involved. So often children are expected to fit into a pre-existing mold that may not be responsive to individual children and families." Parent, Sarah Proechel
"At Mountain Road School I really feel like I'm learning. At my old school it felt like the learning was just...bouncing off me." Milo Robbins-Zust, Grade 7
"Mountain Road remains an experience that speaks to my identity, the place where as an energetic rural kid I ran around" outside, made things, and first came to enjoy school." Anna Milkoswki, 1982 alumni, graduate of Harvard and Yale.
"I appreciated its openness to all and the attention it gave to each and every student." Kyle Johnson, 2009 Alumni
