Overall Policy
The Board of Directors is committed to the goal of having all families be able to attend Mountain Road School if they wish. The award of assistance in any one year does not guarantee any future award. Arrangements for tuition assistance and awards are established at the discretion of the Board of Directors Finance Committee and approved by the Board of Directors based on the availability of funds and the individual needs of the family. It is also the policy of the school to increase diversity at the school through financial assistance whenever possible. Priority will be given to returning Mountain Road School and Abode families. A non-refundable tuition deposit of $500 per child is required upon acceptance or by March 1st for returning families however for families applying for financial aid, deposits may be refunded or held undeposited at the discretion of the Board.

Procedures

Returning families requesting financial assistance should submit the school Request for Financial Aid Form to the office by April 1st of each year. Please request a financial aid packet from the school office. Families must also submit required documentation online at Tuition Aid Data Services (TADS). The MRS office has a paper worksheet to help you organize your information before you submit on-line. New families need to complete the same process at the time of application.  The Finance Committee will consider circumstances beyond need on an individual basis as explained on the school form. In some cases it may be required for parents to meet with the committee. The Finance Committee will then recommend and the Board will approve awards by the end of school year.

Applicants for Tuition Assistance must apply by April 1st for first-round consideration. Failure to meet these timely requirements may result in a delay or denial of assistance awards. We begin to award Tuition Assistance at the end of April and continue the process until there are no longer funds available, at which time we begin a waitlist for assistance. Tuition Assistance is awarded on a first come, first served basis, with preference given to returning families although not everyone who applies will necessarily receive aid. Awards are for one year only and each family will need to complete this process annually.

About TADS
In order to be considered for Tuition Assistance, you must submit your most recent tax return to TADS. TADS confidentially and impartially analyzes the information provided and recommends a tuition adjustment to the school. TADS processes the financial statements of more then 250,000 families each year and more then 550 colleges and independent schools use their services. In the case of separation, divorce, or parents who were never married, both natural parents are required to complete the process in order for their child to be considered for tuition assistance. Information is kept in the strictest confidence.

Tuition Discounts
Multi-child families
A multi-child tuition discount of 5% for second and subsequent children in the same family is established. This discount is independent of other discounts or tuition assistance/scholarships.
