“The school is different because the kids help each other and work out problems together.” Sophie, Age 5
“I wanted to let you know that our experience has been great so far at the Mountain Road School. I can’t say enough about how welcoming and kind everyone has been. My children love Bharati, Chantal, and Mark. They look forward to going to Art and Music, and my daughter walks around singing some of the songs that they’re learning. I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into the school only a couple of times per week, but Bharati has made the children feel very much a part of the class when we come in. We’re very happy that we’ve been able to be a part of the Mountain Road School.” – Home School Parent
“My heart has been filled with gratitude for ALL the faculty of MRS. Being at MRS I have discovered what a child-centered and heart-centered school truly is. I feel so incredibly blessed for my child to have the opportunity to be so honored and cherished.”- Cari Naftali, Parent
“I LOVE the child-centric approach of the school, its emphasis on loving each child, the nature centric curriculum, Flying Deer, the inclusiveness of celebrating all holidays fully, the focus on community. I love that the older kids hold hands with and truly care for the younger ones, and that classes perfom for each other every Friday.” Eileen Ordu, Parent
“MRS truly has a warm homelike environment where each child’s individual creativity is nurtured. Both my son and daughter thrived at MRS and I am very grateful for the years that they had there. The school is set in 400 acres of woods, fields, streams, and ponds. My daughter especially loved her days spent out in nature, where she grew in her awareness and connection to local wildlife and learned wilderness survival skills under the direction of mentors from Flying Deer Nature Center, which collaborates with Mountain Road on their nature-centered curriculum. My daughter learned to identify all the birds in our area and was able to show me all their local nesting sites. She knew what wild plants were good for eating and healing. The annual theater presentation was always the highlight of the year. Both of my children were encouraged to express their understanding of the curriculum in creative writing and artwork. Even though both my children have graduated, I am still actively involved in supporting the school because I believe that the school can serve as a model for what child-centered education could be. ” – Karla Lehtonen
